Tesla Sedan to Be Build in the Bay Area
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger just announced that Tesla Motors will be building their new sedan right here in the Bay Area. Some of you may have heard of the Tesla Roadster that is the first Zero Emission Vehicle that was able to blow most fossil fuel sports cars out of the water. The new car is build in partnership with the state of California and will be a milestone in environmentally friendly vehicles.
What does this mean for Hybrid Cars?
Zero Emission Cars are still a long way from reaching the main stream. Tesla Motors sedan will still be over the 55,000 mark making out of reach for most consumers. We also do not know when they will be able to ramp up production to meet demand.
Another thing to think about is that zero emission does not mean zero fuel. The car still has to run on energy, in this case electricity. As oil prices continue to climb the price of electric energy will increase as well. The goal of a vehicle should be to the most efficient and from a consumer standpoint the most cost efficient.
If I was buying a car today I would not hold off on buying a hybrid because of this news announcement. I would still go and by a Hybrid Car with no reservations. What do you think, should people wait for more Zero Emission Vehicles to hit the road before they replace their current car?
